This IS starting to be worrisome. Mr Kurtz's misstatements were bad enough
when he originally made them. Now they're starting to be picked up and
quoted by other writers as though they were true.
I think the reason for this is that Kurtz wants to push the UU
organization to come out with a public statement. If it doesn't Kurtz
will continue his misstatements. To his audience, UU is almost as bad
as ACLU, I suppose, so Kurtz wins. If UU comes out with a statement
either pro or con regarding UUPA, Kurtz wins again because he will be
able to twist the statement to tweak the knee jerk ire of the moron minority.
Instead of upset, I feel the best way to deal with Kurtz is with
derisive humor. Keep in mind that he is a Republican hack inflating
wedge issues. I don't for a minute believe that Kurtz himself
believes any of this none sense. The best thing we can do is point
out how silly he is. Perhaps call him "Chicken Little" Kurtz. Kurtz
loves to talk about the slippery slope which starts with gay marriage
and ends with people being able to marry their dogs. I would point
out that nobody I know wants to marry their dog, so maybe Kurtz is
just projecting his own perverse desires. Or does he have so little
self control that if it suddenly became legal to marry dogs, he would
have to run out and do it?
