[UUPoly-L] Trad marriage

 It is my belief that the words "Traditional Marriage" in current usage
means one where the MAN is in charge, regardless of other circumstances. In
the case of interracial marriage, it must be a WHITE MAN in charge. What
fundies try to infer is that it is just one man and one woman, but they
really mean one man in charge. The Biblical model is a man with as many
wives as he can support but that seems to escape the discussion. Look at
covenant marriage or divorce laws in southern states. Look at the words in a
fundy marriage ceremony. This is a Gender Role issue in our culture.

Also, "our history" is really short in the span of things, marriage has
meant many different things over history.

3) For most of our history traditional marriage has been defined as one man,
one woman FOR THE REST OR THEIR LIVES.  As evidenced by our divorce rate, we
have since amended that definition.  Given a that conservative Christian
marriages are no more stable than anyone else's marriages there will likely
be in any group of Traditional Marriage proponents several individuals on
their second or third marriage. Supporters of traditional marriage should be
asked to justify their own multiple marriages, or is it a case of "Justice
for me but not for thee?"
