ESCAPING POLYGAMY
Polygamy is illegal in every state in the U.S. However, some religious
organizations still incorporate the practice into their religious doctrines.
While the Mormon faith has denounced polygamy, the Fundamentalist Church of
Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints, (FLDS) a sect that has broken away from
Mormonism, believes that their male members must marry at least three wives for
admittance into heaven. Today we'll meet current members and former members of
FLDS who'll tell us how polygamy has impacted their lives. A mother and
daughter will tell us why they were both wives to a man who had 16 other wives.
Plus, we'll also speak to young men who say they were kicked out of the sect
and torn away from their families for being rebellious.
