Re: [UUPoly-L] UUCA: welcoming congregation
My wife and I belong to a swing club. It's a nice place to hang out with
sex-positive adults.
It's kind of funny, it made INTERNATIONAL news last year. I saw the article
in hundreds of papers, including the hindustan times. :) The shocker was
that the local paper "discovered" that there was a swingers club running in
a building that used to be a school (the gym actually, which is oddly
appropriate IMHO)
There was an intense debate in the local paper online forum, VERY
polarized. The non-member locals seemed to all fall into one group, which I
would summarize with one particular post: "I hope you all catch aids and
die". There was some concern expressed as to the safety of children in the
area. Funny, the gas station next door isn't seen as a hazard though. Police
logs showed ZERO calls to that address, but many to the gas station,
including one murder..
The swingers who took the other side in this debate were universally well
spoken, rational, and presented themselves in a way that showed tolerance
and in general are the kind of people we want to hang out with.
So we joined the club :) Others have told me that this club is not
typical, this one puts more emphasis on forming relationships than on just
casual sex, but in the end it is always entirely up to you.
As we see it, sex is an activity that really isn't that different from
soccer, managable risk, and a lot of fun.
And we've met some nice polyfolk there, and pagans, and christians, and so
on.
My wife is getting romantically involved with a guy she met there, 1/2 of a
nice pagan couple. :)
I would say that we are primarily poly, and very light on the swing side.
But I don't really see that there's any need to put people in boxes. The
rainbow does not have any lines.
