I disagree. I have heard of examples of swinging arrangements that are  
clearly NOT polyamory, such as the couple who only swings with strangers they've  
never met before, to ensure that no emotional involvement has a chance of  
growing. I have heard from swingers who consider polyamory and swinging to be  
completely different and who want nothing to do with polyamory, and who would be  
offended at being defined by us as "under the polyamory umbrella." We polys 
do  not have the right to define someone else to be under our own "polyamory  
umbrella," especially when they have indicated they don't want to be under it. 
 
Yes, there's some overlap. Yes, there are some forms of swinging that fall  
under the poly umbrella. But there are other forms that do not, according to 
the  swingers engaged in that form of swinging. We have to respect them, just as 
we  want them to respect us.
