I like your triangle proposal.  Each corner having one of the following: monogamist, polyamory, and swinging.  What would a midpoint on each axis look like.  I can see half way between monogamist and swinging as being cheating.  Half way between swinging and polyamory are close swinging friends.  But between monogamist and polyamory?  Is it the discussion stage or agreeing and looking?

I think it would be a useful discussion tool, as John U said, to discuss the theoretical side of having multi partners arrangements.  And as we have all found, however, being in the head is quiet different than being in the heart.
