Re: [UUPoly-L] But Seriously Folks... (was: Polyamory vs. Swinging)

what? ... it must be an even year, again!
LOL
I remember triples had a regularly occuring
poly vs swinging thread.
it eventually and usually degenerated to 'us vs them'.

Anyway: opinion,
gained from attending ITCR conference, some years back.
http://www.lovethatworks.org/index.html

Swinging 'began' as a result of the repression
associated with McCarthyism in the 50s.
Think about it:
* 2-parent 'family' living in new suburbs,
* 'keep this under your hat'/secretive attitude
* 'don't rock the boat' (of partriarchy)
* LTF: Long Term Friend
  (doesn't sound casual, to me)

I'll skip over how it grew/sustained itself
thru the 60s--90s with the LifeStyle conferences
since I'm not familiar with that history

But in the 90s 'responsible non-monogamy' and the
"let's make up a word with both Greek -and- Latin roots:"
polyamory krewe came up with a different sound-bite
to describe what we are doing/attempting.
