I'm not so sure that is all that true anymore.  I have attended or known about
various poly events that were populated by many folks who were lower
socio-economic class, and not by choice-- they had limited education, and were
not part of anyone's concept of "elite".  I have found folks like this in
Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Texas, and other "Heartland" areas.

Nor are such folks necessarily liberal; here in the DC area, polyfolk are as
likely to be libertarian, or even just plain right-wing conservative, as they
are to be tree-hugging liberals.

The poly "movement" may have started with
counter-cultural/pagan/liberal/nonconforming types, but things have spread
quite far beyond that at this point.
