[UUPoly-L] CARAS

Hi Everyone, This just arrived from CARAS. Research in Polyamory is badly
needed
and CARAS is a way for this to begin to happen. I would encourage those of
you with a research interest to investigate this new organization.

CARAS Introduces Its Founders Circle

San Francisco, CA, September 27, 2006 - The
Community-Academic Consortium for Research on
Alternative Sexualities (CARAS) is an alliance of
researchers and alternative sexuality organizations
and their members. It creates and shares academic
resources, provides advice and review to research
projects, and provides opportunities for researchers
to network with other researchers. But most
importantly, it brings researchers together with
members of alternative sexuality communities who can
provide them with the information necessary to conduct
relevant, cutting-edge research. Currently, CARAS
serves the polyamory and BDSM communities.

CARAS is pleased to announce the creation of its
Founders Circle. The Founders Circle is an exclusive
forum of the first ten charter organizational members
of CARAS. These organizations represent members of
the alternative sexuality community that are in the
forefront of supporting and promoting excellence in
the research of alternative sexualities. Black Rose,
the New England Leather Alliance, Arizona Power
Exchange, and the Society of Janus are the first four
members of the Founders Circle.

Richard Sprott, Ph.D., Executive Director of CARAS,
expressed why these groups are important "These
organizations are consistently at the forefront of
community leadership and education, and once again
they are working hard on the behalf of the larger
community. CARAS appreciates the support for our
efforts at this critical time."

CARAS has two important goals. First, CARAS provides
guidance for researchers on what ideas to test and how
their questions can be answered. CARAS is the bridge
that will connect researchers and alt-sex communities
in the effort to bring the power of science to bear on
alternative sexuality research. Secondly, CARAS works
to replace myth with scientific evidence.
