Yes, there is an application process to become an Independent Affiliate.
UUPA worked on that for a while, until it became clear that we can't secure the
necessary letters of reference at this time. Did you see Moonstorm's report
about his question at his district's annual meeting? He wondered when a UU
speaker will:

So the UUPA Board of Trustees is working on laying the groundwork necessary
to make those references possible, including education, networking, building
trust, and encouraging those intimate, lower level conversations. UUPA
members and supporters can help with this by being active and committed UUs in your
UU congregation, your congregation's UU district, UU social justice work, UU
camps and conferences, Independent Affiliates and/or their chapters, etc.
When you feel ready to become visible about supporting polyamory awareness, you
will have already earned a lot of credibility and built trust among the UUs
in your congregation and district. This will make it easier for you to come
out, and a lot easier for others to hear about it from you. It will make it
possible for you to participate in these intimate, lower-level conversations
that build strong foundations.

Polyamory awareness is slow work, and a lot of time can go by before any
info on the website changes. If you know of a sermon on polyamory that's
published on the Internet, please let us know and we'll request permission to link
to it. If you deliver a sermon on polyamory, please send us the text and
permission to publish it on the UUPA sermons pages.
The membership application/donation form will be updated soon to reflect the
501(c)(3) recognition. I believe the chapters listing is current. In the
next few weeks, we'll be working on a couple of other additions to the website,
both of which have been delayed by my over-filled schedule and a month of
illness earlier this year. Please contact me offlist if you know of a contact
person whose listing is incorrect or absent, if you see another website
correction, or if you want to suggest an addition to the site.
