Subject: [UUPoly-L] Media request from SE Pennsylvania
Folks,
I got a request from Elizabeth Evans, a freelance writer who has been commissioned by an area newspaper to write an article on poly folks in southeastern Pennsylvania or perhaps PA as a whole. She seems eager and positive. Here is the correspondence.
Cheers,
Alan

Hello, Alan:
Boy, am I glad to come across your 'blog. I'm a free lance writer who has written for the Philadelphia Inquirer and some national publications. At the moment, however, I'm writing features and religion coverage for papers in Lancaster and Pottstown, PA. I've pitched the story to my editor, because I think its an important one, but one of the issues is finding people to talk to.
I'd love to find some folks willing to go on the record about polyamory as a lifestyle in the Lancaster (I believe someone may already be doing something there) and Pottstown areas. I'm also very curious as to your perspective on how the media covers polyamory, whether a lot has been written about polyamory, and whether you think it has been fair-or how it could be covered differently.
Best wishes, Elizabeth Evans

Elizabeth,
There are indeed poly people in your area of Pennsylvania (I think -- I'm a little hazy on the geography) who post on various lists. If you wish, I can forward your inquiry there.

Well, as you can see in my blog, the professionalism of the coverage ranges from excellent to horrid.... Some article I liked:

Have fun browsing, and let me know if I can be of further help.
Sincerely,
Alan

Alan,
I would love it if you could forward my inquiry to your folks in the southeastern PA area. I'm in northwestern Chester County. If you are sending this on, your folks should know that the paper circulates in Southern Berks, Pottstown, east in the Royersford area, and down south to Ludwidg's Corner.
I have a feeling this will be a "friend who knows a friend" kind of article. I have seen Pottstown people listed on a poly meet up list, but without actually signing up for a meet-up (which seems a little like false pretenses to me) I'm not sure how to get ahold of them.
My editor has just approved the story. I have a feeling that it would get publicized beyond our geographical area simply because there aren't too many polyamory stories out there right now. I'm more than willing to attend a meeting, but I'd need to know that folks would speak to me on the record.
Thank you so much for your help,
Elizabeth
