Re: [UUPoly-L] UU and blue/red poly

Dave,

Many thanks for articulating what I sense, but couldn't document.
Certainly there is a tendency to objectify women, and to "sexify" things
(cars, cloths, guitars) in a way that, in my opinion, does a dis-service to
women and things (particularly the guitars), and I do wish our society would
grow up a little, and allow sex to be what it really is - and very neat way
for humans to spend time with pleasure, and a great way to express
affection/attraction. Why must it be used to sell?
But I digress. The old argument that pornography *by definition* is
degrading to women (but not to the males involved? Hmm... double standard?)
is, it seems to me, mostly a cover for those who are simply uncomfortable
with the idea of visible sex/public affection/pornography. And as you've
rightly pointed out, if you don't like it, don't watch it, and certainly
don't buy it.
Having said that, I'll also mention that, while I'm not personally offended
by pornography, I'm also not interested in it. Movies, particularly, just
don't interest me. Well written erotica, however, I do find interesting, and
enjoyable. Where does one draw the line? Wherever it fits, of course, and
one persons erotica may well be another's pornography. I like to use my
imagination, and find that most filmed porn is simply too graphic - I like
having something left to my imagination. Silly me!
Best - Keith
