Someone asked about UUPA's 501(c)(3) status. 
 
UUPA applied to the IRS for recognition a LONG time ago. The IRS has not  
taken action on our application. We have a lawyer working on it for a very  
reduced fee. 
 
If (1) an organization applies timely, (2) the IRS acts on the  application 
timely, and (3) all the paperwork is in order, then recognition  is retroactive 
to the time the organization started. In UUPA's case, the IRS has  not yet 
acted on our application. If the IRS finds some problem with our  paperwork, the 
recognition might not be retroactive.
