Re: [UUPoly-L] Open Marriage--Polyamory
IMO the many laws and institutions (and many of the customs) surrounding
marriage between two people are rooted in civil injustice and customs which
grew out of gender and class inequity, and these laws, institutions and
many
of the customs perpetuate a hegemonic paradigm which is in and of itself
harmful to society. Making legalistic arguments about 'due diligence' will
not change those sociological facts. Where you see it causing problems
because "sexism is still a reality in society at large", I see it as a
radical move which challenges the sexism inherent in the 'traditional'
monogamous structure. And simply because my "due diligence" does not match
your definition, does not mean that due diligence is not being done/has not
been done.
Diffrences of opinion are what makes life interesting! I'm satisfied to
agree to disagree. :-)
I don't expect to persuade a lot of people on this isssue. I'm frankly happy
that people have been tolerant enough to listen to my position at all. After
all, I'm coming into a poly list and challenging something that is important
to some or many poly folks. I've received no unkind words in return.
That says something about the quality of this group.
