IOW, my objection to your argument is that it would draw the
line against group marriages for all time. You object to
group marriage as incompatible with a huge number of things
in current society that ARE NEVER GOING TO CHANGE until
group marriage is introduced.

That's not my intention. What I want to see are think tanks or other mechanisms set up to spend time and brain power anticipating what the major problems will likely be. They should also consider how to resolve things with the United Nations, since the United Nations is trying to outlaw all polygamous marriages worldwide as part of their women's rights efforts. The United Nations may well start working with U.S. government agencies to prevent or undo the legalization of multi-partner marriage. Then, based on recommendations from the think tanks or other mechanisms, have groups of political wonks and lawyers put together a package of bills that would accompany the bill to legalize multi-partner marriage. The package of bills would be designed to prevent anticipated problems were possible and to offer remedies for anticipated problems deemed inevitable. At that point you would have completed due diligence and be ready to start social and political movements to get the package of bills passed in as many states as possible.

Will there still be problems? Of course. No one can anticipate everything that could possibly go wrong. But at least polyamorous folks will have made a credible and reasonable effort to limit the negative impacts. That's due diligence.

Is this a lot of hard work? Sure it is. But if people who want leagalized multi-partner marriage don't want to work hard to achieve their goal, why should I take it very seriously?
