Re: [UUPoly-L] I'm new

Do we need a UUPA on Second Life? Or do we just need to let people in "Real
Life" know how much more wonderful poly life can be? Jenni, what is going on
in your life that makes WofW so important?

For older folks (and I count myself among the older folks in this case), gaming seems to be an imginary world to escape the real world. That's because our brains substitute "television" when we hear "video game."

But it's a new generation.

Gaming will soon replace television as a national past time. Many kids already spend more time on games than they spend watching television. The gaming and music industries are becoming interconnected. Some of my son's favorite songs are soundtracks to games, and playing games introduces him to new musical artists whose songs he then wants to buy. Look on YouTube and will find no shortage of videos that combine people's favorite clips from games with their favorite music.

My son has made friends at school through common interests in gaming. My son has even made friends in other nations, such as Japan, through online gaming. Many games have chat rooms where you can talk to other players during the game. Sometimes my son gets on a game and doesn't even bother playing...he just wants to talk with people using the game chat. I am considering taking my son to gaming conventions starting next year. I have an older nephew whose friends have gaming parties. They each bring their own gameset and television to one of their houses, set their gamesets up so they can play each other, then spend the evening playing games and enjoying each other's company. Gaming is not as anti-social as you might think.
