Re: [UUPoly-L] the IA allegations
Valerie,
I think it is wonderful you are working with the OWL program. I have actually been asked by a couple of members of my community to NOT teach OWL. They say that parents would have a "problem" with it. I am somewhat broken hearted, because I have taught that age group for a very long while. I have a very strong repore with the kids, and feel I could do a good job.
However, my polyamorous lifestyle was "pushed" out of the closet last December by a member of the congregation that felt it was utterly wrong and decided to go through the membership directory and call people one by one. I was President at the time and she said I could not possibly be representing Unitarian Universalists in a positive manner with that kind of sexual behavior. I seriously thought about resigning, but most people in the congregation stood by me as I had to fully explain myself. I talked to all the board members individually to explain the situation before it got out of hand. It was a very painful experience and I would love for everyone to be more educated (which we are working on).
Anyway... I think polyamory is a very important aspect of the OWL program, and definitely needs to be addressed at UUA.

Oh, and you might want to know that just today I was invited to
participate in an alternative-sexuality panel as the polyamory person
AT 25 BEACON for an OWL Trainer training. Marshall Miller of the
Alternatives to Marriage Project is the person who asked me.
