Re: [UUPoly-L] UU minister blogger's comments on IAs and UUPA
I see these as stepping stones... The groundwork is much better for the
GLBT front getting same sex marriages legalized. Since any Poly marriage
will have at least 2 of the same gender, this is the current fight. After
it is won, then take on the next step.
Things taken one step at a time have much less opposition, and are easier to
overcome. The push for complete perfection instantly usually fails, whereas
step by step is possible....

Lesbians and Gays have a longer history, and more well-established
institutions, for dealing with discrimination and civil rights than do
Bisexuals. If you want support, I would think in terms of LGBT, not just
Bisexuals.
Also, you might find joint support betwee LGBT and poly folks a bit
complicated because of the national movement to legalize same-sex marriage.
I know some people on this list see same-sex marriage and poly marriage as
issues of justice. An injustice for one is an injustice for all, so why not
team up?
Yet, some people use poly marriage as an excuse to scare people away from
same-sex marriage. The right wing argues that, if you legalize same-sex
marriage, you'll have to legalize poly marriage as well. True or not, the
right sees this argument as a way to motivate their base into action and as
a way to make centrists second-guess their support for same-sex marriage.
It's not a well-reasoned argument. It doesn't have to be. It just has to be
effective in making it harder to legalize same-sex marriage.
