[UUPoly-L] Mass. minister lays down the gauntlet
OK, so in today's blog post, the Massachusetts UU minister reveals that he has a fair amount of animosity towards us. If not animosity, then certainly mistrust, and he issues a very strong challenge:
"I believe that those who propose changing our collective position on two-person marriage bear the burden of proof that such a change is warranted, necessary, and socially responsible. One of my tests is a question that my mother used to ask me when she objected to some aspect of my behavior, 'What if everybody did that?' It is that test which separates the self-indulgent from the socially responsible policies."
Desmond has made a reasoned response there. Another interesting comment, one that is much more fair to us, came from a gay person. I recommend that others read this post and comment on it so we can set the record straight. Argh, there is so much misunderstanding out there still. He clearly believes we poly folk are insisting that the larger society not only accept polyamory but adopt it, and besides that, there are a few commenters that are driving the debate but certainly not in our favor.
