Re: [UUPoly-L] Time to draft UUPA talking points?

Here is one we can use:

"We are bringing our covenant of relationship to life; relationships between
individuals and between and among congregations. For us, relationship is
holy. We are beginning to know that we are better together." Bill Sinkford

Subject: [UUPoly-L] Time to draft UUPA talking points?

I'm thinking that now is the time to pay close attention and note common
points being made that are not in our favor in order to craft a list of
talking points any of us can use when engaging in this debate, whether
online or in person. I know I would feel much more confident about speaking
to UUs on the subject if such a document existed upon which I could draw.

As an example, I helped NCSF craft it's poly talking points. They might
be helpful to the process of crafting our own but would need a lot of
retooling so that they use language that with resonate specifically with
UUs. I'd volunteer to do this but think that our UUPA leaders, along with
others who have had practice at engaging in this debate within the UUA, and
much better qualified to create such a list and make it the best it can be.

The NCSF poly talking points (which they call "soundbites") also include
some scientific data which could be incorporated for suggested responses to
the "there is no scientific data that poly isn't morally and spiritually
bankrupt" argument.

It's interesting how many assumptions are being made without our being
invited to engage in dialogue so learning can happen. It seems what they
think they know about us is what scares a lot of people, and unnecessarily.
