Re: [UUPoly-L] Bloggers debating re UUA and polyamory and ensuingcomments

Hi, Cecily,

You're right, this blogger is certainly not representative of all UUs in their attitudes toward polyamory. Certainly you will find polyphobia amongst UUs, but the vast majority of reactions I've gotten in discussing polyamory with UUs have been calm, accepting, and civil, even from people who have no interest in polyamory for themselves.

I think it wise not to give these bloggers more attention than they deserve. I also think it's wise not to get pulled in by their rhetorical tactic of trying to turn dialog about polyamory into controversy about legalizing plural marriage. We have enough good stuff to talk about in the everyday real experience of being poly in UU congregations. We do not need to help these bloggers portray us as trying to push the UUA into a contentious political advocacy.

Blessings,

I just jumped into the poly blog reading and I am floored. Like I said I just jumped in so my comments here are a reaction and not well though out.

  1. I have not officially "signed" the UU book and become a member though I basically am as my husband is a student minister. If I were someone looking to join and I came across the blogs here I would run far far away form UU-ism. There is so much reactionary posts. My husband reassures me and GA did as well that this is a small group of people not representational of all UU's. I hold that. I have been reading these blogs for a few years now.

  2. Chalice Chick has poly relationships and it perplexes me that she is taking a stance as if it is a foreign concept to her. She is in one now. She is married and has a lover of 4 years. I don't understand why someone who is poly is distancing herself from the issue.

Like I said I am floored. There are some excellen comments. I hope that UU's can be more open minded. Maybe i am naive but i am hearing the same arguments used against LGBT. Sad. Very sad.
