[UUPoly-L] "What if we all did that?"
My mother asked: What if we all did that?
What a quaint question. Assuming we are only looking at relationship
questions - since someone else pointed out that we can't all choose the same
career choice. Diversity in our choices is imperative in our society.
So, only looking at relationship choices, let's see what would happen if we
all made the same choice.
Same sex marriage: If everyone - and I mean everyone chooses to marry
someone of the same gender and be monogonmous, the end of child bearing
would be in sight. Not everyone would be able to afford artificial
insemination. Our birthrates would sky dive over 10 years - and whereas we
might like that on a world wide basis, it is imbalanced to do so on a
country by country or continenent by continent or religion by religion
basis. Consequently, according to this line of reasoning, the same sex
marriage decision is wrong since it would be wrong if everyone did this. I
sincerely doubt that the minister in question would want to espouce the idea
that same-sex couples should not marry.
Heterosexual couples who choose to not have children: What if we all did
this - same result as above, more or less. So, heterosexual couples who
choose to not have children are wrong, because of the effect it would have
if we all made that same decision?
This minister is sounding more Mormon than Unitarian Universalist to me.
I'm having visions of the Stepford Wives, universal conformity, etc. This
is not the type of society I want to be a part of!!!
