You've expressed this well, Kelly.  It reminds me so
much of the psychological insights put forth by Carol
Adams in "Living Among Meateaters."  As she explains,
when there's hostility toward veganfolk, there is
often some deep fear underlying that hostility, and
her advice is to practice compassion, recognize and
perhaps even gently address that fear.  You're
shedding light on a core fear that many people may
have (and not even consciously, but at some level).

Desmond, your post is a terrific contribution. 
Thanks.  One might think these things go without
saying, but that's the thing--we need to say them.
