My question is whether there is such a thing as a Polyamorist-- at least in any
significant numbers.  (There's always a nut job of whatever description
*somewhere*.)

I'm on the side of there's no such thing as a Polyamorist with a capital P. Unless it's self-identified, and no one else need or probably would acknowledge the difference.
