The post below is a little belated.  I was just cleaning out my "sent" folder, and found this. It seems when I clicked "reply" it only went to the poster, and not to the list.  Hmm...don't know why becuase the original post was sent to the whole list.  A glitch in the system?

Intimacy can be experienced in the emotional and spiritual realms as well...with or without sex.  (I sort of cringe at the word "special"...for so many reasons.)  If I say someone is an "intimate friend" it means we have both opened to sharing a a deep level vulnerability, openness, transparency and affection, and intend to continue doing so.  It doesn't define how often I see the person, or how sexual we become...although it may contribute to those factors.

I agree with the question of why distinguish with or withour sex?  Is that 
really important in a discussion?  I use the term "dear friend".  May or may 
not be intimate.
