Re: [UUPoly-L] God is in all of us -- We are God

Hi Ken:

Thank you very much for the info about the book. I may have to check it out.

"...seeing that of God in everyone", is one of my favorite mantras...and good one in times of stress. :-D Friends return again and again, to reflecting on what it means - "Walk cheerfully upon the earth, seeing that of God [the Divine] in everyone". It was a quote often repeated by George Fox, the founder of The Friends of the Light. (Later shortened to Friends. "Quaker" was actually intended as a derogatory term, used by the courts to mock these peculiar people who "quaked" when moved by the Divine to "speak truth to power". )

Well....feel free to send poly Friends my way. We're gathering for discussion on a new list, and in need of as many minds and hearts as possible. Now one will be "outed" unless they want to be, but the presence of Friends who wish to join the discussion in order to examine some of the issues we may (or may not) face would be much appreciated.

Peace: Tara

Subject: [UUPoly-L] God is in all of us -- We are God

Tara said: (In part) If we are to believe that The Spirit is
All-loving, and that there is "that of God in everyone", then the
concept of loving only God in one way or place, or "that of God" in
only one person could possibly be a limiting concept....at least for
some of us.

I am presently reading "The Immoral Reverend" by Robert H Rimmer, a
long time proponent of open relationships (among others). It has a
delightful "sermon" on the God in all of us. He then goes on to
develop an new First Church of Modern Moralities that celebrates human
sexuality and love. Lots of Unitarian Universalist overtones..

Here is the review from Amazon.com.

Book Description
A CHURCH OF MODERN MORALITITES!

In the city of Adamsport, Massachusetts—very similar to Quincy, where
Bob Rimmer has lived most of his life—Matt Godwin, with both an MBA
and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Harvard—after fifteen years in
the business world, is about to be elected president of a multi
billion dollar conglomerate created by his father.

But defying both his wife and his father, Matt returns to the
Unitarian/Universalist pulpit. He has a vision of a church that offers
an entirely new approach to Christian morality. Inspired by the never
ending mystery and wonder of procreation, life and death, his religion
will preach the exaltation of the human body and mind—and human
sexuality will have a joyous, laughing, sacramental quality.

Matt's religious humanism is portrayed amidst a background of
obsession and adventure. Attempting to build a new style church.
Matt's need for funds, leads him on a search for millions of dollars
in gold bullion dumped by an American transport plane during World War
II in the Himalayas, when we were at war with the Japanese. With the
help of an Islamic, Arab oil billionaire he rebuilds and recreates a
former Unitarian Universalist church and offers a sexual religious
agenda that shocks the conservative Christian community.

Originally published in 1985—Bob Rimmer has elaborated the Church of
Modern Moralities with a new, 21st century, franchised religion in his
novel, —published by toExcel in 1998. It's called Wondering and has
churches called Love Dromes. Don't miss it! After you've read it,
you'll become a Wonderer, too!

And interesting read that you keep for bedtime reading -heavy on polyamory.

And, BTW, I have some friends who are very much Quaker and very much
into the open lifestyle. And the Unitarian Universalists of the
Chester River, in Chestertown, MD met in the Quaker Meeting House for
some 10 years.

It is good to see that Poly thought is spreading -- UU, Jewish (a few
rumbles -- good article in Tikkun magazine on Polyamory), and now
Quaker. And I have heard some vague rumors that the United Church of
Christ has a few Polys too. Are the Episcopalians not to far behind
us?
