To me, the core tidbit of ancient wisdom that  spreads goodness 
    when observed is the law of reciprocity (or the  Golden Rule or 
    whatever other names it goes by).  If you  would not like it done to 
    you (or even if you would not like it done to you  if you were the 
    other person(s)) then it is inherently not fun to  do to someone else. 
 
    Put another way: If I could pickpocket people  really well and then 
    use their money to buy myself whatever I like, that  SEEMS like 
    more fun than budgeting whatever resources you come  by the 
    hard way.  BUT on the day when you REALLY need  something 
    expensive and you get to the market only to  discover your own 
    wallet is missing, then it is no longer  fun.
