   I don't know anyone, on or off this list, who is promoting the

   legalization of group marriage.

   Don't know if this counts, but I've floated the idea -- on this list and
   in one of my books -- that the current system of "one-size-fits-all"
   marriage licenses should be replaced with contracts drafted by the
   spouses.

   While most people would follow a general template for their contract,
   there would be room for variations including...
   multiple-partner or "group" marriages
   limited-duration or "trial" marriages
   non-exclusive or "open" marriages
   more restrictive "covenant" marriages for religious conservatives

   As for the "messy stuff" of inheritance, divorce, etc., ... the spouses in
   question could work that out themselves, so the contract would essentiallu
   incorporate a prenuptual agreement.

   And since legally binding contracts require the parties to be consenting
   adults, marrying children and animals would be excluded.
