Re: [UUPoly-L] Tangental Note - Savage

I can understand why he would be asked to speak if the decision were
made by someone who was only familiar with SOME of his writing. He's
very well-known and influential in the gay community, but it's very
clear if one looks closely that he's happy to be a GAY community
member, and is not at all an LGBTQ community member.

I agree with Laura that Dan Savage has displayed himself to be a bigot on a
number of occasions - not the least of which was as an official speaker at
GA several years back. I can't remember if it was in Quebec or in Long
Beach, but the BGLT office asked him to be a speaker. It was a huge - 500?
people who came to see him speak one evening at GA. He was particularly
offensive in regard to bisexuality, differently-abled attendees, BGLT
persons who live in rural areas, and when confronted about all of this by
UUA staff, confirmed his attitudes unapologetically. He had various members
of the audience in tears with his personal attacks. I am shocked that the
UUA office asked this offensive person to speak - authoritatively - at GA.
