Re: [UUPoly-L] Report from PNWD AGM

This is, I believe, the whole problem with striving to specifically be
inclusive of specific groups rather than striving for non-specified
egalitarianism and acceptance. It's very sad. It's a lot like why a
lot of early feminists gave up on equal racial rights and why
race-related civil rights activists didn't want to worry about women's
rights. (And, in my opinion, the whole problem with the original
women's movement as a whole and a big contributor to why we indeed
still have so much gender discrimination.)

What's that line from one of the hymns?

Is it true freedom but to break
Fetters for our own dear sake

I approached one of the ministers in our welcoming congregation for advice
about this. (A member of the GLBT community, I might add.) I was shocked
at the argument that came back, something to the extent of, "there were a
lot of people in the 60s who tried sexual experiments, ruined their lives,
etc. therefore I don't want our people to be hearing about this through us."

Personally, I think you are at risk to even mention it. Your choice, but be
aware. (beware?)
