Re: [UUPoly-L] Pittsburgh
I attended First UU when I lived in Pittsburgh. The congregation was
very friendly, the building is lovely, but they weren't as active in
social justice as I would prefer. As I understand it, Allegheny UU
Church is extremely active in social justice. I did not have a car at
the time I lived there, and it is not on easy bus routes, so I never
visited Allegheny.
Pittsburgh is essentially an overgrown college town, so it's pretty
darn easy to find alternative lifestyle communities there. For living
in the hip part of town, I suggest Squirrel Hill or Shadyside. These
areas are very heavy in college and grad school populations. They're
also very lovely places to live, and fairly cheap. South Side is the
"cool" part of town, too, but there's not a lot of residential space
directly in south side, and the surrounding neighborhoods are not the
hippest places to be.
If you have any specific hobbies or the like that you're looking for
groups for, I might be able to help you out with that as well.

Looks like I might be living in pittsburgh for a while.
Any input on congregations, or on nice places to live in the area?
Work will be on the south side, but I have no real idea of where the "cool"
places to be are.
I would prefer somewhere in an "alternative lifestyles" community, if such
exists.
Any pointers?

confuses one for the other, or assumes the greater the love, the greater the
jealousy. In fact they are almost incompatible; both at once produce
unbearable turmoil.
