How un-UU of Ms. Weiner. I thought we were supposed to practice that bit
about openness to allowing others their paths. Also, wouldn't the point of
subgroups to be for those groups more specific than general interest?
I can see where BDSM could be misunderstood and create apprehension among
those who do not understand and realize that it is consentual and integral
to some
individuals sexuality. (keep reading)
I can see where Poly could be misunderstood and create apprehension among
those who do not understand and realize that it is a preference and a
lifestyle with
history in most religions. (keep reading)
I can see where Paganism could be misunderstood and create apprehension
among
those who do not understand and realize that most of the imagry in "popular"
mythology was designed to defile the "enemy", and cause revulsion so that
people
wouldn't look closely enough to understand it. (kr)
I can see where Homosexuality could be misunderstood and create apprehension
among those who do not understandand realize that the teachings about gays
"being
evil, and trying to tempt you into hell" is a brand of prejudice that comes
from the
religious right.
I can see where Womens Rights could be misunderstood and create apprehension
among those who do not understand and realize that women are capable of more
than producing and rearing children.
I can see where Minority rights could be misunderstood and create
apprehension
among those who do not understand and realize that minorities are not
animals
shaped similarly to humans.
Who gets to decide the line? We live by the 7 principles in the UUA. I can
see a
case made that BDSM is demeaning to the sub and disrespects them. On the
other
hand, does it disrespect them more to deny them their sexuality? (yes, I
know not all
BDSM is sexual - I am making a point) There was a point in time that any of
the
aforementioned "I can see"'s could have their case made against or for their
cause.
I have discovered that even in UU, which I have GREAT respect for, people
are still
people, and sometimes do not live up to ideals. Hopefully, the people
making
decisions will realize the point I was making. Feel free to use the general
idea I
presented above....
