Re: [UUPoly-L] Poly reality

Sorry, I was re-reading a few OLD posts and this "theory" sentence struck me, overlooked it before.
I apologize Bill, because I know taking it out of context, changes some of what your really said.
But, I'm wondering just how many members/posters here at UUPA actually support "plural marriages"?

Is it just a theory for you, or do you recognize the reality that there ARE plural marriages today, in the USA. For most of human history it was legal, and common. Polygamy is still very common in African tribal communities, and of course it's legal in the Moslem world (1 Billion Moslems, folks).

So, are we for or against plural marriages? Are some polys really only interested in "dating around", and not marrying? If you do marry, are you only a swinger, or swapper? Not interested in having several husbands or several wives?

Cat already mentioned CAW (Church of All Worlds). It's not a very large group, but CAW represents the larger Pagan/Heathen or Wiccan communities, where "hand-fastings" are considered valid, and polyamory is an acceptable choice. In fact many are already in existing plural marriages in CAW and some other Pagan covens. Some have been around since the 1970's.

One of the UU Principles, as I recall, is to honor and be tolerant of "Earth Centered" or pagan traditions. Many native Americans have practiced plural marriages from time to time. Thus, why is it that only in the Home of the Brave, Land of the Free, people say "in theory", rather than support those who practice the reality?? Well?
