Re: [UUPoly-L] Another Talk -- Heresey and Polyamory

terrific, glad it went well.

*Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, Chestertown, MD) for
the third time on Polyamory over the past 6 years. The first two
times were a little rough as it was an introduction to thinking out of
the box on monogamy and nonmonogamy-Polyamory. This time I talked a
great deal about the history of heresy and heretics and how
Unitarians have a long history of heresy. And then I introduced
Polyamory as a modern day heresy. And guess what, it seemed to be
accepted much better than before. Perhaps it was familiarity or
perhaps it was because it was in the context of heresy. I got a
number of complements and only one person was upset and wanted to know
"What about the children?". I think he was a lawyer and also he
wanted to know about inheritance options and what happens when
breakups occur in Poly families. I told him this was a very young
heresy and we were still working out the details but that the legal
community (Emens and Aviram for examples) were aware of the problems
and members of the academic PolyResearch E-mail list (Yahoo) were
working on a study concerning the children.

About 25 or 30 were there and a few of the known opponents of
Polyamory were absent. (I wondered if these absent members were also
against Unitarian Heresy.) Our congregation has about 70 book
signed members ?????........

There was no indication that there was any interest in burning me at
the stake. :-)

All in all, I guess is that we are all making progress in presenting
the concept of multipartnering to UUs....
