Read somewhere that the Roman Catholic Church also wanted to burn Servetus at the stake, but since they could not have him they burned his effigy instead.

I think that it should be noted that Servetus was not burned at the stake by
the Inquisition, but rather by the Protestant Calvinists in Geneva. Some
years later Calvin said that they shouldn't have done it (probably), but, as
with all death sentences, it was not possible to undo the deed!
