The Federation (www.thefec.org) is a smaller network, withing the larger "Intentional Communities" group. (www.ic.org) One of it's key principles is: " We share a set of core principles including nonviolence, egalitarianism, and participatory decision-making."
Within the larger "IC" group, you do NOT have to agree to live in or promote an "Egalitarian group." But, to join "thefec" you do, as I recall.
I first learned about intentional communities about the same time I learned about polyamory, about 1993. I'm always surprised how many people say "it can't work", when they have been giving worksshops, and teaching people how to organize and live together since the early 1970's, if not longer.
