Re: [UUPoly-L] Stranger in a Strange Land
I would like to add my voice to this. "Stranger in a Strange Land" was an important book to me. And "The moon is a harsh Mistress" moved me in a even deeper way. I read them at a pivotal point were I was leaving Christianity. I cried over the book and I hung onto the dreams it inspired through breaking faith with pretty much all the relationships I had. Christain family, marriage, friends etc.
I doubt that it honest to say the book changed my life to that extent. Its more like I really wanted to change my life and those books were the first open door that there might be a place for what was welling up inside of me.
I was a member of CAW for a short time, and I would have to say I consider those books about as close to 'sacred writ' as I would consider any book.
I found my copy of "Stranger in a Strange Land" had fallen or been knocked off a shelf and all the pages came out. I had an emotional reaction like this book is too sacred for that. It should not just pass in the night and be forgotten. Someone should reprint it and make sure it continues to exist. These books should always be available for those who would seek them out.
