"Heinlein also has a disturbing belief in eugenics ..."
As Cat has already pointed out, Heinlein was very much a product of his time and geography. Eugenics seems to have been a hot topic in positivist camps worldwide before the 1930s. After that time it appears to have been closely aligned with Nazi practices. That association appears to have pushed the topic underground. Now, though, with the recent changes in medicine, I believe it is again emerging as a topic of open debate. I suspect it may raise a whole host of questions for us as the poly community. For example, what kind of dialog would go on between a pregnant female member and her poly network about recommended genetic testing of her fetus? Would a female who wanted to become pregnant make an intentional choice about which male partner in the network "fathered" her child based upon her perception of the relative "strengths and weaknesses" of each of the males in the network? Would the network collectively make such a choice? Would she go outside the network to "get better genes?" Perhaps no one here will face these or similar questions. But if we don't develop views about such matters then we are condemned to passively accept the view of those who do.
