They found that the mass had not shrunk that much.  It was a large fluid-filled bubble inside the muscle wall called a "laryngocele", and they thought it best to operate that day and stay overnight for observation.

I'm back home on the mend, full recovery expected in 2-4 weeks.  Hopefully I can get more writing done!
