Re: [UUPoly-L] Group newbie: books/resources about polyamory?
Hello!
I was originally planning on lurking for quite a bit longer, but with a
couple of other new people posting I thought I would go ahead and make my
presence known.
I also thought I would second the recommendation for PolyMatchmaker, or more
particularly the PMM forums. I've been moderately active & vocal there for
a few months now. In my experience the discussions are intelligent,
informative, candid, & lively, people are generally happy to answer
questions, usually thoroughly & carefully, and only on rare occasions have I
seen poor judgement concerning what is appropriate. In each of those cases
the moderators stepped in and settled it swiftly & equitably. The members
who are active in the forums are a reasonable balance of old-timers and
those who are newer, but with enough experience to be comfortable, leavened
by enough newbies to keep it comfortable for other newbies to join in.
For books, the only one I've read is _Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless
and Hopeful_. I highly recommend it, with just a couple of caveats. One,
the author appears to be somewhat ambivalent about marriage. In places, his
attitude towards married couples feels to me like it could be summed up as
"Don't bother trying to be poly, because sooner or later you will fail
miserably." Two, he is a bit on the egotistical & opinionated side. Some
people may find it irritating. I didn't mind, because the content of the
book is thought-provoking and challenged us to really think about a lot of
questions that we probably wouldn't otherwise have considered until we ran
into them the hard way.
As far as my presence here goes, I'm almost new to UU and almost new to
poly, so I'm listening and learning.
Emily
P.S. - For any other PMM members, my user name there is DaughterOfTheValley.

Greetings Lia,
I'm curious about your reference to having recently stumbled into poly. If
you have a particular question relating to the stumble, folks on the list
might have some targeted resources to suggest. Generally, you might want to
check out polymatch maker. It is more than just a matchmaking site. In
addition to good background resources, there are also a number of
interesting forums to follow.
Bright blessings of peace and joy,
Misty
