Why don't you try Murdock's Ethnographic Atlas at
http://eclectic.ss.uci.edu/~drwhite/worldcul/atlas.htm and dig around.
It is my impression (or a wild guess that) polygamous/polygynous families
outnumber monogamous ones when you look at world cultures and societies.
