No, I don't agree with this interpretation. I've heard UUs speak about  the 
"open marriage catastrophe" when married UU ministers got  involved with 
married church members that led to broken marriages  and church scandals. If much of 
that went on, it could have shaken the  Association. And the people retelling 
these events were NOT talking about  themselves, but about ministers who have 
long since left the immediate area.  

'Storm, have you considered posting your original message on the UU  History 
email list? Maybe someone there can clue us in. I have just joined  that list.
