[UUPoly-L] Welcoming Congregation & poly - thank you
I want to thank Dave, Valerie, Christi, Kim & Keith for responding to my query.
I found the Interweave bi curriculum, which Kim brought to light, to be satisfying in its persistent mention of polyamory in several places; I was also excited to see that its lead author is Rev. Jane Dwinell, who wrote (writes?) the Small Talk newsletters and is well known to my small congregation through that work.
I am hearing from Dave, Valerie & Keith that including language about family structures in the bylaws revision worked for them without mentioning poly per se;
I am also hearing from Dave & Keith that being out as poly within UU can "feel a bit overwhelming," perhaps isolating as in "I don't have a lot of close friends in the church" which only confirms for me the value of reaching out on this list as I come out myself as bi & poly.
Keith mentions the small size of his WC task force, which is certainly true of my case here; our cmte is approximately half queer, half straight, all four of us and not counting two youth members.
I think from here I just need to finish reading the purple book, check the rest of the Interweave site for further resources, and email my committee. I think it also might benefit us to make a covenant for the task force as we move forward.
I am very grateful to you all. Linda
