Something about the inherent worth and dignity of every person comes to
mind, tho I have to say there are a few people on my short list of those for
whom the world would be better off without. But not someone who just wants
my "stuff". Last year someone stole my snowblower out of my yard. (I'm in
Wisconsin.) I ended up writing it off as them needing it more then I did. >>
Amazing! I thought I was the only one who had that particular attitude :)
I've had my wallet *and* my purse both stolen in the space of the last few
months, and at no point would I have taken a human life for their contents.
To protect my life, probably. To protect myself from rape... Hmmmm...
That's a hard one. The sexual content of the assault would not matter to
me. I once gave in to "date rape" rather than defend myself and possibly
hurt my drunken partner, who was not truly aware of what he was doing nor
that my refusal was sinceres, but a stranger intent on rape is generally
intent more on power-over violence than just seeking sex, so I can't answer
that one.
But for my "stuff"... No. I *can* answer that one because I have had my
home broken into and my stuff taken from me more than once. And I'm
relatively confident that it had little to do with who was in office at the
time, although analysts are saying recently that people are becoming "more
predatory and more opportunistic" today because of the failed economy, which
I can easily believe. And that's the fault of *neither* Obama nor McCain
(although I could show strong analysis that it *is* largely the fault of the
Bush administration, but that's another political argument, and let's not
get into it, shall we?)
