In general I agree, but I believe the "age of consent" issue
is a legitimate one for social (ie, political) concern. If
the "Holy Honored Heavenly House of Hector (H5)" church
gives its seal of approval to 11 year old brides and grooms,
does that bother you at all? If not, what about 9 year old
brides/grooms marrying 49 year old grooms/brides? Moving on
to poly marriages, what about everyone in the 3th grade at
H5's Sunday School class marrying each other?
I do believe marriage should be considered a religious
concept, and that government should, in general, stay clear
of it. Civil unions, with or without prior or subsequent
marriages, are, I believe, a proper governmental function.
Whether that should be at the federal, state, or local level
I have not decided.
Food for thought.
Best regards to all, Chuck Lee.
