So, try this:
Inform your girlfriend that you've decided you'd like to enter into a Domestic Partnership with her, instead of marriage. I am certain that she will be able to explain the HUGE difference between the two realities in a far more forceful and colorful way than, I would ever be able to accomplish.
And Kytte continued with:
Just one friendly word of advice from someone who used to play hockey in High School, you should put on an athletic supporter with a protective cup before having the aforementioned conversation with your girlfriend.
I have two (contradictory) thoughts:
First I would like to say to you as has been said many times to me (and which I have come to agree with [with some degree of questioning]), ... "Words are important." ... and ... this business of wordsmithing can be difficuilt at best ... and ... what a word means to one person may well be different than what that same word means to someone else (certainly we have all experienced this).
First (sub 2) talk to a lawyer about a word, and it's meaning becomes even more important.
Second (the contradictory thought) any woman for who I would have to wear an athletic supporter to talk about marriage/domestic partnerships/civil unions/all the rest would not long be my girlfriend. ((( ....... unless she where really hot, and I was a lecher....... [chuckle] )))
