Re: [UUPoly-L] marriage/civil union/whatever
ALISA brings up:
<<Well, I just recently received this link on another poly list that I'm on
and I do think it's a fun illustration of the bureaucratic mess that change
to a system (any entrenched system, really) causes. This appeals to the
geekier side of those of us who enjoyed reading it.

Yes, very interesting. :)
As the Reorganization Projects Administrator of a Church which acknowledges
more than two gender identifications and which sanctifies unions of any
number of people of any gender combination, and where the polyamorous nature
of our members means that individuals in a sacred union with each other may
be in an open relationship where each partner in the union may also have
partners *outside* of the union, we're dealing with this very thing right
now, and it can get interesting, figuring out exactly how you're going to
create join tables to store the data you want (do we want to store all
partners relationships to all partners, so that we know who is connected to
whom, or just the family nests, where at least 3 partners get together and
form a family congregation), and what the schema will be for them and why.
Which doesn't mean that it's not worth doing. Yes, at least some of us
realize what a Gordian knot we're trying to unweave... But just as with that
mythic knot, perhaps the real solution is just one, very bold and decisive
stroke. :)
