Re: [UUPoly-L] "law" of attraction

And before you put your faith in a Wikipedia article on a controversial
topic, you'll also want to look at various sources and make sure to read the
talk/discussion page and remember that *ANYONE* can write or edit a
Wikipedia article. I'm surprised no one has challenged the "neutral POV"
policy on that particular article, especially since it is part of the "
WikiProject Rational Skepticism." Which seems to me to create a problem
with neutral POV in and of itself, since "Rational Skepticism" *is* a
philosophical POV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_skepticism

So, if you're an epistemologist, then the article will be relevant to your
becoming informed about the Law of Attraction, but if you're not an
empiricist or an epistemologist, the article has very little information to
actually give, and with the Rational Skeptics watch-dogging such an article,
it is unlikely to ever be permitted to have a neutral POV or to provide any
information on the theories surrounding the principle.

Yes, I'd be happy to discuss the Law of Attraction with you, off list. It's
both a magickal principle and on some level is considered a valid principle
in some areas of psychology and neurology, as well as in some
pseudo-scientific fields such as NLP, and it's a pretty hotly debated topic
among some quantum theorist. So if you have no problems with pseudo-science
or "magickal thinking" (I don't, which many on this list know), then there
is certainly information that you may appreciate, but if you're looking for
empirical evidence, then it is fair to say that little to none exists (that
which exists is not conclusive and can easily be interpreted to mean
something else.)

BTW, Valerie, I love your tagline :) I'd have voted for Matt Santos in a
heartbeat :)

Before you embrace the above doctrine, I strongly
recommend that you read the Wikipedia article on the subject.

"Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals
got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals
created Social Security and lifted millions of
elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended
segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights
Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created
Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the
Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They
opposed them on every one of those things.every
one! So when you try to hurl that label at my
feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be
ashamed of, something dirty, something to run
away from, it won't work, Senator, because I will
pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge
of honor." - Matt Santos, The West Wing
