  easy to switch the list archives from public to private. It is however
  very hard to edit the archives to remove individual posts to expunge
  all evidence of participation as some who hve had second thoughts have
  from time to time requested.

  Ah, yes....I did misunderstand that part.  Another reason, in my opinion to keep the archives private by default. - T
