Re: [UUPoly-L] Rimmer

I think that Rimmer's writing was thought provoking and I found it
compelling. I think he was as good a writer as Heinlein, but neither of
them are as good a story teller as say Asimov or Bradbury.

The Harrad Experiment was followed up by the Premar Experience. The Harrad
Experiment was a way for Rimmer to present his concept of educating youth to
be better humans! Oh, and by the way, Don Johnson had a Nude Scene was in
the movie The Harrad Experiment.

I think his best book was Thursday, My Love. It was probably the most
poignantly human of his writing. It was also reasonably autobiographical.
Rimmer and his wife were part of a quad for nearly 20 years.

David and I met in a coed dorm at Kansas State in the sixties. The Harrad
Experiment was required reading for David. For my year group it was
suggested reading. I bought the book and read it. I did not share the book
with my parents who had been at the same Recruiting Open House for the dorm
as I. Had they read the book, I suspect that I would have been forced to
live in an All Girl's dorm!

The thing that sticks in my mind about The Harrad Experiment was that
it paired "unlikely" people together, the geek with the hot blonde,
as I recall. Part of the idea was that if people who convention or
social pressure might keep apart were roommates, they might indeed
become lovers.

Remember The Harrad Experiment was about an experiment. :-)
